Safe Return to Work

Lifting Restrictions.

With restrictions slowly being lifted, the industry will be starting to discuss our return to work.

We understand the pull to return to work due to the lack of access to government schemes for many but we believe in putting your well-being – both physical and mental – first. We recommend only returning to work if there are clear procedures and risk assessments in place. The hair and makeup branch has been working hard the past few weeks working alongside the other branches within Bectu to compile a document to submit to the BFC to be included within their guidelines. We look forward to reading this document when it is released in the coming weeks. Please find these documents below.

BFC COVID-19 GUIDANCE

British Film Commission – Working Safely During COVID-19 in Film and High-end TV Drama Production.

This document is intended to provide high-level guidance to manage COVID-19 specific risk in producing film and high-end TV drama in the UK.

It has been prepared in consultation with the Department for Digital, Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) with input from crew and crew representatives, industry bodies, unions and the devolved administrations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and in consultation with Public Health England (PHE) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

This guidance should be read in conjunction with the latest UK Government guidance. Productions based in Northern IrelandScotland and Wales should additionally check for the relevant devolved Government guidance as it may differ.

The branch has been informed that BFC are awaiting further guidance from the government and the HSE on the application of makeup and prosthetics. We are hoping this information will be added to the document in the very near future Updated 3rd June 2020

20 PRINCIPLES TO A SAFE WORKING HMU DEPARTMENT

This document was put together by working artists.  It was added to the Bectu Film & TV Recovery Plan document along side other branches safe return to work protocols.  This was then fed into the BFC guidelines.  This is a working document and any comments or suggestions please send them to bectuhumbranch@gmail.com.

BECTU FILM AND TV RECOVERY PLAN

For many weeks now, Bectu has been working on very detailed guidance about exactly what our definition of safe-working practices will be if there is a return to work in the context of social distancing rules being in place.

This document is a working document and will be updated regularly, so please save and use the link and view the document this way in order to keep up to date with the information and advice.

The intention of Bectu’s guidance to its members is to provide supporting documentation so they can make an informed choice.

Bectu will always advise our members to exercise their legal right to refuse to work if they think their work environment is unsafe. This is outlined in a statement released by Spencer MacDonald, Bectu National Secretary. You can find this statement here

APA COVID-19 SHOOTING GUIDELINES

The purpose of these guidelines is to enable production companies to take reasonable and practical steps to safeguard the health and safety of everyone attending a film shoot in relation to Covid-19 and to meet their obligations under the Health and Safety Act, and law, and Government regulations on Covid-19. Production companies have that responsibility, which they can meet by following these guidelines.
